New construction of a Sewage Sludge Incineration Plant

  • Client:

    KENOW GmbH & Co. KG
  • Completion:

    2022
  • Location:

    Bremen
  • Task:

    New Installation

Description

The KENOW company with the shareholders
  • hanseWasser (hVE)
  • Oldenburgisch-Ostfriesischer Wasserverband (OOWV)
  • EWE WASSER GmbH sowie
  • swb Erzeugung

plans to build a single-line sewage sludge incineration plant in Bremen’s industrial port.

Within the incineration plant, sewage sludge is being accumulates from different sewage treatment plants of the HVE, the OOWV, the EWE. Mechanically dewatered sewage sludge and solar thermal dried sewage sludge are burned in the fluidized bed furnace.

The process consists of the following parts:

  • Acceptance and storage of sewage sludge in bunker
  • Sewage sludge drying
  • Combustion in a stationary fluidized bed
  • Steam generation in steam boilers
  • Energy utilisation via steam turbine and heat distribution
  • Exhaust gas treatment
  • Vapor condensation and vapor condensate treatment
  • Auxiliary systems

Excess heat from the sewage sludge incineration plant can either be fed into the district heating network or delivered to the neighboring power plant (MKK) via a thermal coupling.

The tender and award took place batchwise from mid-2019. The main lots are to be awarded in 2019. Commissioning of the entire plant is scheduled for the end of 2021.

Contractor´s role

The individual lots are worked on together with partner offices as a working group. W + G takes over the areas of combustion + boiler, water-steam cycle, turbine and cranes.

The planning services include basic determination and preliminary planning, draft and ap-proval planning as well as all other service phases of the HOAI.
